19-year-old Kehlani has a voice beyond her years and places a fresh twist on her R&B influenced vocal style.  The artist couples current electronic instrumentation with classic, a powerhouse vocal performance in her song “Get Away” that narrates a classic “the one that got away” love story.

My favorite thing about this particular song is that it has a climax, at the hook, while remaining dynamic overall.  The intro definitely sets the mood of the song: sultry and soulful but also upbeat and driving.  Her mature sound complemented by the heavy percussive interludes makes for an eclectic mixture of contemporary and classic sound, which adds even more appeal to this catchy tune!

I love Kehlani’s strong vocals and how they play off of the fluidity of the track; the dialogue between her voice and the syncopated electronic beats weaves the whole thing together perfectly.  “Get Away” is definitely one of my most played songs at the moment… Happy Listening! xx
