Europe Trip β™‘

My parents decided it would be a great idea to go on a two week Euro trip with both my grandmas to Italy, Prague, Vienna and Germany. We had such an amazing time. This trip is definitely one I will remember forever. Seeing my grandmas communicating and traveling together with us was one of the best experiences. My grandma Nonna is Italian and my grandma Obaachan is Japanese. Somehow my grandmas get along and communicate with each other so well. I wish this was all filmed so you guys could see how funny and amazing the way they communicate is.Β  Here are a few photos from the trip. β™‘

Reggio Calabria, Italy β™‘

My Nonna lives in Reggio Calabria, Italy so we began our trip from there. On our first day we went to my favorite beach in the world, which I have blogged about before called Baia Di Riaci, which is located in Taormina, Italy (an hour away from Reggio Calabria).

69006977_2484619918491287_6613442736039133184_nIf you ever go to Italy you have to try the latte di mandorla (almond milk) it is sweet and delicious. It tastes differently from the almond milk here in the States.Β  One of my all time favorites and I always get it when I am in Italy.

68559668_361575181430870_3126064016221274112_n.jpgWe went out to eat pizza. Guys this was the one of the best pizzas i’ve ever had in my life!!! Mozzarella con latte di Bufala, Caciocavallo Silano DOP, smoked Scamorza and Gorgonzola.

68866985_379255723007072_5661901617897668608_n (1).jpgWe spent a day with family at my uncle’s beach house. My grandma cooked so much for us. I forgot to take a photo πŸ˜₯ she made parmigiana, lamb, salad, cheese and pasta.

If you read this all the way through, thank you!! This is my favorite post i’ve made so far because it means so much to me and it is filled memories I will remember for the rest of my life. We laughed so much until we cried and I learned so much more about my family. I feel so blessed and thankful that my family are from two complete different cultures and that I am able to travel, learn and grow from and with them.

Magnolia Market β™‘

66648601_2355957081327699_4984706530835169280_n

On the way back from Austin, I had the opportunity to go to the very famous and popular Magnolia Market located in Waco!

66042129_663766337422184_3406775326271864832_n.jpg

For those of you who have never heard of Magnolia, it is a warehouse market owned by Chip and Joanna Gaines. They are also known for the show “Fixer Upper” on HGTV. You may have also seen some Magnolia products at Target.

I was excited to go because I have heard so much about this market!

66199884_2309414115818521_8681056635331805184_n (1).jpgMagnolia Market is a huge warehouse which includes lifestyle goods and home decor. Some people may not know this but I love interior decorating πŸ˜€

66721837_466736587418952_8060228265270312960_nThis whole warehouse was adorable!

66221685_387682065211592_2523175737440075776_nOne of my favorite things about the whole market was not just the decoration but the Wall Decor. I love the little encouraging messages.

66448500_547603589104989_2233912443128512512_n.jpgAs cheesy as you may think it is, I believe little encouragements are so nice. One of my favorite quotes I saw wasΒ “The World Needs Who You Were Made to Be” :’)Β  and it’s true… The World needs who you were made to be β™‘

66440075_351776352174026_968419240103116800_nThey were all Magnolia themed. Very cute πŸ™‚

LA Trip β™‘

62065247_352171332166969_333620947745505280_n.jpg

I decided to go to LA for a couple days to get away from New York and also visit a very close friend of mine. Here are a few photos of my trip/places I recommend for you to go β™‘ For all you foodies, this one is here for you. I went a bit wild with the food this time. hehe

Melrose Trading Post β™‘

Meet one of my closest friends Victoria β™‘ She is currently living in LA and I am so happy I got to visit her and have her show me around. Thank you for everything Vic, love u.

The Melrose Trading Post is like the LA version of the Brooklyn Flea Market (but better).

I bought the shades I am wearing in the photo at The Melrose Trading Post. Aren’t they so cute? πŸ™‚

61746036_492243081315202_7512258921554247680_n.jpg

They had the cutest little stands/tents. Look at this cute little van too β™‘ I enjoy going to flea markets and I think The Melrose Trading Post is one of my favorite flea markets I have been too.

Gracias Madre β™‘

61626834_338520757063125_7219478495703859200_n

Vic took me to the cutest Organic/Vegan Mexican restaurant called Gracias Madre. Which is the sister restaurant of Cafe Gratitude (which I didn’t get the chance to go to this time).

Little Tokyoβ™‘

Little Tokyo is such a fun place to go to for yummy Japanese food and also for Japanese snacks, face masks and more πŸ˜€

Here are two restaurants we went to, I recommend both. πŸ˜€

Chinchikurin (Okonomiyaki/Takoyaki)

I decided to be a little adventurous and I tried the udon carbonaro (a combination of Japanese and Italian food). I guess if I were a food i’d be udon carbonara….? lol I wouldn’t mind πŸ˜› It was sooo good. I know it sounds weird but it was sooo creamy and full of flavor.

Runyon Canyonβ™‘

61780419_2279417765482541_1232184464629563392_n

I have always wanted to go to Runyon Canyon. Yes, this is the very famous hiking spot where you can spot lots of celebrities. (No we didn’t see any this time lol).

61702574_1545491292248829_5014645764308074496_n (1)

Runyon is such a beautiful place to go to get a little exercise in. LA is great because you are still in a city but can be immersed in nature in just a few minutes.

Also, if you are looking for a place to get a good view of LA…Runyon is the place πŸ™‚

My Little Dumpling β™‘

61659950_1092076337659521_3013450454756491264_n

Vic took me to the cutest Dim Sum Restaurant. The photos speak for itself.

62048713_421574665363477_8511588092098904064_n

This is the perfect place to go for an intimate dinner with drinks and plates to share with friends.

61749797_322440108672408_7556467324874653696_n.jpg

We later had gelato at Gelateria Uli, it is walking distance from My Little Dumpling. So if you are looking for a good gelateria with unique flavors this is the place to go. I had the thai iced tea and lavender.

I met with so many other friends that I didn’t get to take any photos with or of 😦

During this trip I felt really loved and made so many great memories.

My Favorite Places in Brooklyn, NY (So Far) β™‘

As many of you know, I have been living in New York now for about 9-10 months now.

Although I do not feel like a New Yorker, I definitely have been finding cute restaurants, stores and cafes that I’d like to share with you all today.Β  You will probably see me hanging out at some of these places πŸ™‚ hehe

Devocion56917970_805267793188264_635414907927396352_n.jpg

Devocion, is a Colombian cafe. They have a few locations but a really close friend of mine is a coffee educator at the Williamsburg location so I like to work here often. I find this cafe really nice to work in because of the natural light and the beautiful green plant is nice especially when you’re living in a city.

Since I work from home, I have the luxury of working in spaces like this during the day πŸ™‚

56760729_522061111656080_7180783185419042816_n.jpg

You can also find me hanging out here with my friend Laura πŸ˜›

Come here for good coffee and friendly people β™‘

Carthage Must Be Destroyed56702335_1047229068795624_3156988579616391168_n.jpg

Carthage Must Be Destroyed is an Australian brunch place located in a warehouse in Bushwick, Brooklyn. All their ingredients are organic and fresh. Not only is the food great here but the decor is amazing too. Especially if you like all things pink πŸ˜‰

They have a rule where you can only take photos of your food and not of yourselves. Which I think is a great rule πŸ˜› Taking photos are always fun but learning how to be aware and present in your environment is important too.

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Shop56874348_407805146437788_6744275729162174464_n.jpg

Van Leeuwen is a New York based artisan ice cream shop. They have classic and vegan flavors. If you’re ever walking around New York and you spot a Van Leeuwen’s do yourself a favor and get some ice cream… and if you’re feeling adventurous get the ice cream cookie πŸ˜› They have yummy flavors like their early gray ice cream and if you’re going for a good dairy free flavor I really enjoyed their chocolate vegan ice cream. πŸ˜€ (Seriously, everything I have tried here so far has been great)

Healhaus56510911_2233225560272972_2296732743628750848_n.jpg

56576544_329995064535353_8345825783519903744_n.jpg

If you’re looking for an inexpensive studio to do some yoga in Brooklyn, Healhaus has a $20 new comer rate for one week of unlimited yoga. They also do meditation classes, workshops and have a wellness cafe. I came here one time and I really enjoyed the yoga class I took here.

Package Free Store

56971013_1250177211803877_783055538303795200_n.jpg

The Package Free store is a zero waste retail store selling products from stainless steel straws to bamboo tooth brushes to diva cups! My friend Laura introduced me to this shop. She is very conscious and aware of reducing waste and living more of a eco friendly lifestyle. I am learning a lot from her. I never realized how much we really do waste and use plastic in our daily lives. Even if it’s little steps (I am still learning too) we can make small steps into implementing an eco friendly lifestyle.

These are a few of my favorite places. I will definitely be updating and reposting this as I know I will keep discovering new places. Let me know if you’d like to see this version of places I enjoy going to in the city.

Thank you so much for reading. Hope you can discover and check out these places too!

Adaptogens β™‘

IMG_4469.JPG

Hello Friends! I know that it has been a while since I have posted. I have been thinking about sharing this with you for a while. A few years ago, I discovered something thatΒ  really changed my life.Β

I discovered ADAPTOGENS !!!!! Adaptogens are a herbal/plant medicine that protects the body from various stressors. You can think of adaptogens as ancient herbal medicines that have been used for hundreds of years from all over the world. There are many different types of adaptogens that focus on many different healing benefits, wether it’s anxiety, stress, focus, skin, hair and more. Today I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite adaptogens. πŸ™‚

One thing that I would like to emphasize is that adaptogens are life changing but to see results it requires consistency and patience. I’d like to think of my relationships with adaptogens as life long. As cheesy as this sounds, taking adaptogens is a daily ritual for me. It is a journey and I find that different adaptogens are helpful to me in different seasons in my life. I wanted to share with you a few that have benefited my body and my life.

*I like to take my adaptogens with warm water and I drink them as a tea (I do not mind the taste). Some people mind the taste and add them into their smoothies, teas, soups and or coffee.Β

Ashwaganda

First, I will start with an adaptogen that many of you may have already heard of Ashwagandha. This is a great adaptogen to start off with if you are new to the adaptogen world. Ashwagandha is an ayurvedic medicine commonly used in India and in the Middle East.

Benefits of Ashwagandha:

  • Reduces stress hormones (cortisol levels)
  • Supports your immune system
  • Improves sleep
  • Shown in studies to have strong anti-anxiety and anti-depressant effect
  • Boosts longevity

I felt improvements after I was taking this adaptogen daily for several months. I mostly felt more calm and less anxious. When I feel really stressed I drink Ashwagandha and I feel as though my body recognizes this supplement and I instantly feel calmer. But remember! This is meant to be taken consistently.

Rhodiola

As you can see it is also called the “Brain Tonic.”Β  When I first purchased Rhodiola I was studying a lot because I was in school and I had a lot of trouble focusing. I did my research and thought I would give Rhodiola a try. After using Rhodiola consistently for several weeks I really could tell that I was focusing a lot more during class, as I was studying for exams.

Benefits of Rhodiola:

  • Improves brain function (In a scientific study, Rhodiola reduced mental fatigue and improved performance on work-related tasks by 20%)
  • Promotes mental clarity
  • Promotes stamina and longevity

Fun fact: You can find Rhodiola growing in the mountains of Europe and Central Asia.

He Shou Wu (One of my favorites)

img_4475.jpg

He Shou Wu is an ancient chinese herb (grown in Southern and Central China). I was first drawn to He Shou Wu for its hair benefits. I have inserted an example of a before and after photo of me after taking He Shou Wu consistently for several months. He Shou Wu is definitely one of my favorite adaptogens and I still use it in my routine.

Fun Fact: Ancient Story

When I was researching about this ancient herb, I read a few legends about the herb. The name He Shou Wu came from a man named Mr. Ho. When Mr. Ho was 58 years, a monk advised him to take an herb that was called Β jiaoteng.Β After taking the herb daily his hair turned from gray to black, strong, long and healthy, his vision improved, and his body became more youthful. Some say he lived until he was 160 and died with black hair. Since then, the herb has been called Mr. Ho’s hair is black (shouΒ = head;Β wuΒ = black).

Benefits of He Shou Wu:

  • Hair growth
  • Boosts Libido
  • Supporting healthier longevity and aging
  • Helps reduce cholesterol
  • Nourishes blood, skin and nervous system
  • Said to turn gray hair back to its original color.

Here is a before and after photo of me (Before I took He Shou Wu on the Left and after taking He Shou Wu daily for 4-5 months to the right)

Look at the difference in my hair, my hair grew so quickly and it looked so much healthier, stronger and longer.

Ashitaba (Another one of my favorites for various reasons)

Ashitaba is a Japanese plant, it means “Tomorrow’s leaf”Β in Japanese. As I was researching about adaptogens I came across Ashitaba and decided to try it in Japan first. Since my mom’s side of the family is Japanese, I was able to purchase Ashitaba at a store in Japan. Unfortunately the brand isn’t sold in the states 😦 I also have the Ashitaba from Sun Potion but I prefer to use the one I bought in Japan. Now my grandma sends me Ashitaba every now and then.

I drink Ashitaba daily for many reasons, first being that I have anemia and I have really low blood pressure. Ashitaba is known to be a blood builder and is rich in b12. This is good for anyone with low blood pressure. Many vegans and vegetarians are also recommended to take Ashitaba because of its rich source in vitamin B. Another reason why I love taking Ashitaba is because it has done wonders to my skin. I have always had trouble with acne and this has helped my skin tremendously.

Benefits:

  • Rich source in Vitamin B
  • Improves skin
  • Helps you take regular poopies

There are many different brands that sell adaptogens, I would recommend to do your own research before purchasing adaptogens. I really like Sun Potion because they work with suppliers from all over the world to sell the best quality. Their ingredients are organic and clean and they never use ingredients that have been chemically treated.

These are some of the adaptogens I have used and that have worked for me. Please do your research before trying or purchasing anything. I am no doctor, I am just here to share with you what has helped me and I hope to inspire you to implement adaptogens into your life πŸ™‚

Thank you for reading.

With so much love,

My family and I went to this town called Bacalar which is three hours away from Tulum by bus. Bacalar is a lagoon connected to the ocean, this water isn’t salt water! Doesn’t it look like the ocean?
